Art. Culture. Community. Connection.
432 Nomads is a Portsmouth-based, diversity-led creative collective rooted in the power of storytelling, art, and community. We work closely with migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and marginalised communities, using creative expression as a tool for dialogue, healing, and empowerment.
We are more than a collective—we are a growing movement built on the voices and stories of those often unheard. Through art, poetry, music, digital media, and culture, we provide a platform for expression, resilience, and change.
432 Nomads began with a simple idea: that storytelling and creative expression can bridge divides and build stronger communities. Founded in Portsmouth, the collective grew out of a desire to provide a platform for the voices of migrants, refugees, and underrepresented communities to be heard, celebrated, and understood.
Our work spans creative school programmes, poetry and writing workshops, community exhibitions, and immersive events that nurture emerging artists and build bridges across communities. We collaborate with charities, schools, councils, local businesses, galleries, venues, and creative organisations to inspire change—right in the heart of Portsmouth and the Southern UK regions.
We are committed to bridging cultural divides, amplifying underrepresented voices, and celebrating the shared humanity that connects us all. Through storytelling and creative expression, we create spaces for dialogue, understanding, and empowerment.
At the heart of 432 Nomads are the values that guide everything we do:
Inclusivity: We believe that everyone’s voice matters. Our work creates spaces where all stories are valued and heard.
Empowerment: We use creative expression as a tool for building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
Cultural Exchange: We celebrate the richness of different backgrounds and foster understanding through shared artistic experiences.
Community-led Creativity: We are committed to projects that are shaped by the communities we serve, ensuring their voices are at the centre of everything we create.
These values are the foundation of our projects and partnerships, helping us bridge divides, build connections, and inspire change.
Our programmes extend beyond the city, forging connections across the Solent and neighbouring regions, creating opportunities for artistic exchange and community engagement:
Open Mic Events for Young People: In partnership with Portsmouth Poetry and The Base, we create spaces for young voices to be heard.
Creative Writing Projects: Collaborative projects with Portsmouth Academy, Charter Academy, and Park Community School to inspire storytelling and self-expression.
Community-led Exhibitions: Showcasing local talent and community stories at venues like Gunwharf Quays.
Artist Development Programmes: Supporting emerging creatives with mentorship, training, and performance opportunities.
Culture & Identity Talks: Hosting conversations in schools and public spaces to explore themes of belonging and cultural heritage.
Civic Celebrations: Participatory performances and public art installations that bring communities together.
We lead projects and collaborate with partners to bring creativity to the forefront of community engagement. Such as Portsmouth Refugee Week, leading city-wide celebrations that highlight the strength and resilience of refugee communities and our current flagship project, Our Sanctuary: Ocean of Voices, an ambitious community-led arts programme celebrating migration, belonging, and resilience through storytelling, VR, and large-scale installations. Learn more about this and other initiatives on our Projects page.
Through our work, we aim to build lasting connections, inspire social change, and amplify the voices that too often go unheard.
